Gurbani Viewer

The Gurbani Viewer is used to display text from the Guru Granth Sahib. The application is designed to search and display Gurbani text, line by line, in a Gurdwara like setting for the sangat to follow along with the Raagis. For each line, text in Gurmukhi, phonetic English and the English meaning is displayed. See the application documentation for more details.

Steps for running the application

The Guru Granth Sahib text and translation is available courtesy of Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa, MD and Kulbir Singh Thind, MD. The file is available from the http://www.gurbanifiles.org/translations/index.htm website. Download the 5.72MB "Gurmukhi to English translation & transliteration of SGGS, sentence by sentence" MS Word document. Open the word document using MS Word and save it as a text file, for example SGGS.txt
The Gurbani Viewer application requires Java version 1.5 (JRE 5.0) or above to run the application. The JRE can be downloaded from Sun Microsystems Web site (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp)
Download the the GurbaniWebThick font and install it to the Windows fonts folder. A download link is provided below.
Download the application zip file and extract to a new folder.
To start the application, double click the ssgviewer.cmd file.
Load the text file, SGGS.txt, from step 1.
You can now search and display text from the Guru Granth Sahib. Alternatively you can directly go to a specific page in the file.

The application documentation provides detail descriptions about all the features in the application including how to run the application in single user mode. It also provides several valuable tips on searching the SGGS file.
